well, not every person with Hiatal hernia requires surgery. Surgery becomes an option in symptomatic patients and definetely after insuring that the symptoms are secondary to the hernia being: Regurgitation of food and Heartburn. The surgical solution for that would be Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication, which is a minimally invasive one night stay procedure that will correct the anatomy and create a valve mechanism at the junction between the esophagus and stomach to protect from reflux.
