I spend a lot of time working while sitting down, almost 10 - 12 hours day. Is there anything I can do to prevent muscle cramps and lower back ache?

You must pay attention to your sitting position. Avoid oblique positions that may bend your lumbar spine and the paravertebral muscles. Take advantage of your free time to do sportive activities and stretching exercises regularly.
During your work time, do a "time out" and have a short walk in your office. Don't forget the benefits of swimming; it is an excellent habit to fight against muscular and articular pain.

Sedentary life causes mechanical back pain and disuse atrophy of muscles. To avoid this you should adjust your sitting position by applying lumbar cushion on your seat. Lean backwards. Elevate your desktop screen so you look forwards or slightly upwards. It is good you do some exercise. These exercises are of great help and can be done indoors, take less time, and are not seasonal. http://www.doctorvlad.com/lowerbackpainexercises/index.php/2011/02/simple-lower-back-exercises-to-help-prevent-back-pain/
