Yes varicocele can affect Sperm quality and quantity. However, varicocelectomy doesn't always improve the Sperm parameters. It all depends on its size. There are other factors that affect sperm motility like smoking, heavy alcohol drinking, increase body weight, increase exposure to heat, steroid intake... It is well known that stopping smoking will improve motility
