Can we catch diseases from our pets and especially cats?

One disease that is transmitted by cats is toxoplasmosis and this can infect us without consequences , however if a pregnant woman is infected this might cause congenital abnormalities.
Although the risk for a pregnant woman to get infected and for it to affect the baby are very small , we do test for it and counsel pregnant women about certain precautions they need to take
