"Sustaining direct trauma from the weights": isn't this normal when trying to grow the muscles? The bruises aren't big, they're round and d=1cm.

No, when you gain muscle mass and grow muscle size, there should not be associated bruising. As I have already explained, it is most likely due to the weights or the bar hitting against your muscles.
