Why is it that for some when they're depressed they eat, and others don't eat. What's the correlation between food and depression?

د. Mostafa Odeh طب النّفس
1. Most patients who get depressed (95%) start to complain of decreasing appetite and consequently weight loss. However, there is a subcategory of depression called a typical depression in which there are reversed biological symptoms (increased eating and sleeping) and unusual reactivity of mood.
There may also be a characterological sensitivity to personal rejection and apparent prominence of personality difficulties. The cause of increasing appetite in such people is unknown, but they tend to respond well to treatment like other patients.
