Should we take flu shots every year? If yes, which specialist can give the shot and what are its benefits?

د. Zakia Dimassi طب الأطفال
Yes, yearly flu shots are recommended to confer protection against the most commonly circulating influenza virus strains. Usually, statistics are done to identify the virus subtypes that were dominant the year before. Accordingly, and every year, the vaccine is designed to cover those dominant subtypes. When everyone in the household takes the vaccine, this will help lessen the risk of catching the infection and protects the vulnerable age groups (children below 2 years and elderly above 65 years, and people who are immunocompromised, i.e., their immune system does not function well and thus get sick easily and have a difficult course of disease).
You do not need to see a specialist to administer the vaccine; you can see a general medicine physician for that purpose.
