So far gastric bypass surgery has proven successful in weight control in addition to other health benefits (positive effects on diabetes) in long term trials. However, sticking to a hhealthy lifestyle (diet plus exercise) is a must to sustain the effectiveness of the surgery, as they go hand in hand.
