It is adviced to use condoms when oral sex is performed by a woman to a man, to protect from transmission of STDs.
The risk of transmission increases if there are cuts or sores in the mouth.

STDs can be transmitted by all the forms of sex. The best way to prevent them is the use of a condom even for an oral sex. But pay attention not to tear the condom with your teeth.
Overall, oral sex seems to carry a lower risk of transmitting infections than penetrative intercourse.
If your partner has confirmed STD, you must be sure that he doesn't have HIV or hepatitis. If you can not know, you must do tests for those viral infections now and after 3 months to make sure you don't have any transmission. It is not important to test for other STDs if they do not give symptoms.
