Although it is common practice to have your baby's ears pierced early on, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends to "postpone the piercing until your child is mature enough to take care of the pierced site herself."
Common complications include: infection (infants younger than 3 months of age have immature immune systems, so they might not be able to fight off an infection at the site of the piercing very well); choking risk (if they get the earring off); allergic reactions (to the earrings' metals, especially nickle and gold, and these are usually difficult to discern since infants normally rub their ears a lot); embedded earring (this occurs when one part of the earring goes into the earring hole and gets embedded inside).
Your baby is 5 months ols which is an old enough age to fight against mild infections especially that by now she should have received her 1st and 2nd doses of vaccines. And please make sure that the piercing is performed in a facility that uses sterile equipment and has experience piercing baby ears
