It  is possible that a small part of the nail is still retained which can cause inflammation or infection around it , which is responsible for the pain, I advise you to see your doctor to assess the situation and decide on the proper management. Also it is advisable to see your doctor to make sure that you are up-to-date concerning the tetanus vaccine, and administer it to you if necessary.
