How common is the cancer of the uterus? At what age should women start getting tested? And what methods are available to prevent it?

Routine screening for the general population is generally not recommended.
Abnormal uterine bleeding is the main symptom of endometrial cancer (cancer of the uterus).
Endometrial evaluation should be performed for all women with postmenopausal uterine bleeding (including spotting or staining) and for premenopausal women with abnormal uterine bleeding who are aged 35 or older and/or have risk factors for endometrial carcinoma. Endometrial sampling is the gold standard for evaluation for endometrial neoplasia.
Strategies for screening and prevention of endometrial cancer include endometrial sampling and risk-reducing hysterectomy. Eating a well balanced diet, avoiding obesity, maintaining a healthy lifestyle with daily exercise are also recommended measures for prevention of endometrial cancer as well as many other malignancies.
