Anxiety can increase both heart rate and BP. This is more common when the BP is measured at the doctor's office when the readings in some patients are usually higher than their home measurements ( White Coat Syndrome) . Try to take several measurements a week at different times of the day. Avoid caffeine and smoking for at least 30 minutes prior to each measurement. Then average the readings and if it is 140/90 or higher then you will need to adjust your meds. If anxiety is a factor , then perhaps adding a beta blocker to the regimen may be helpful.
