My son suffers from adenoids, the doctor said that he might need surgery but I do not prefer this. Any medication can be used to solve this problem? We used to give him Avamys and nasonex.

Usually, a trial of intranasal steroids (such as the ones you are using for your child) plus oral anti-histamine (like cetirizine or desloratadine), Plus/minus oral montelukast, is given over a few months period: if the size of the adenoids and the symptoms of obstruction (nasal blockage, recurrent sinus/ear infections, mouth breathing/snoring) are reduced, this usually obviates the need for surgery. If however symptoms do not resolve or get worse, then surgery becomes required (in this case, the benefits of the surgery outweigh the harms, because if the child continues to get infection and obstruction, the consequences will be significant on his/her normal development and quality of life).
