My doctor suspects that I have mild congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Can you please explain why did he prescribe me a diabetes pill? I'm 22 y.o. female, my BMI is 32. the medicine is dianorm 500 mg

Hi again. Dianorm's main ingredient is metformin, which, alongside its use in diabetes treatment, is used in cases of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in which case the patient suffers from irregular menses, obesity, hirsutism (excess hair). I presume your physician is also suspecting you have PCOS which is why he prescribed this drug. Mind you, congenital adrenal hyperplasia is confirmed by specific blood and urine tests; PCOS is mainly a clinical diagnosis but needs blood tests and ultrasound of ovaries for confirmation.
