Monogon is Menotrophin, (human menopausal gonadotrophin, HMG). One ampoule of this medication contains the equivalents of 75 IU FSH and 75 IU LH. FSH (follicular stimulating hormone) and LH (lutenizing hormones) are both secreted by a tiny gland called the pituitary (found under the brain) to stimulate the ovaries to produce eggs. So HMG serves “imitate” the effects of these 2 hormones.
The dosage of HMG for the induction of follicle growth in women with either normal or low levels of LH and FSH in the blood varies according to the individual. The amount depends on how well the ovaries respond and should be checked by ultrasound examinations of the ovarian and measuring estradiol levels. In general, the therapy is begun with a daily dosage corresponding to 75-150 IU FSH (so 1-2 ampoules per day at the start of therapy). If the ovaries do not respond, the dosage can gradually be increased until a rise in estradiol secretion and follicle growth is evident (on blood tests and ultrasound). Treatment with the same dosage of HMG continues until a specific estradiol serum level is reached.
To induce ovulation, 5000 or 10000 IU HCG are injected in the muscle 1 to 2 days after the last HMG administration.
Adverse effects
-Sensitivity to Menogon – fever which may be accompanied by chills, muscle aches, bone pain, malaise and fatigue. It is not clear whether these are true allergic reactions.
-“Flu-like symptoms” including fever, chills, body aches, joint pains, nausea, headache and malaise
- Gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, bloating).
- Pain, rash, swelling and/or irritation at the site of injection.
- Body rashes.
- Dizziness, tachycardia (rapid heart rate), dyspnea (difficulty breathing), tachypnea (fast breathing)

Menogon is used to treat women with infertility problems due to under-active pituitary glands. It contains the hormones FSH and LH that are normally produced by the pituitary gland. It works by stimulating the ovaries to produce eggs. Another hormone called human chronic gonadotropin (hCG) is usually given with Menogan to ensure ovulation will occur at the expected time.

It is administered as an intramuscular or a subcutaneous injection to treat infertility, to induce ovulation and enable pregnancy in women. It may also be used to stimulate the production of sperm in certain forms of male infertility

Converning the dosage .please follow your doctor rules and don't worry ,the dosage of HMG for the induction of follicle growth in women varies according to the individual. The amount
depends on ovarian reaction and are checked by ultrasound examinations of the ovarian and measuring estradiol levels.
If the HMG dosage is too high , multiple uni-and bilateral follicle
growth can occur.
the therapy is begun with a daily dosage corresponding to 75-150 IU FSH. If the ovaries do not respond, the dosage can slowly be increased until a rise in estradiol secretion and follicle growth is evident. Treatment with the same dosage of HMG continues until the pre-ovulatory estradiol serum level is attained.
If the level rises too quickly, the dosage should be reduced. To induce ovulation, 5000 or 10000 IU HCG are injected i.m. 1 to 2 days after the last HMG administration.
Note: After a HMG dosage too high for the corresponding individual has been administered the following HCG administration can cause an unintentional hyperstimulation of the ovaries.
So.your doctor will give you the dose with correspondance to your case and stimulation and ovary reaction and will be monitoring you and checking you ,and if any happen he will change reduce increase the dose it depends .
