If a newborn weighed 3.8 kg at birth, what should be his weight by the first month?
13 أغسطس 2015

د. Zakia Dimassi طب الأطفال
During the 1st week of life, newborns lose up to 10% of their birth weight, and this is because when babies are born, their bodies have retained fluids from inside the womb. With the shedding of those fluids, their birth weight drops. Afterwards, the infant adds weight at a rate of 30 grams per day. So by the age of one month, an infant whose birth weight was 3.8 kg is expected to weigh around 4 kg.
