It can have many different causes but the symptoms are all similar.
Facial pain, often described as burning, aching or cramping, occurs on one side of the face, often in the region of the trigeminal nerve and can extend into the upper neck or back of the scalp.
Although rarely as severe as trigeminal neuralgia, facial pain is continuous for patients, with few, if any periods of remission
Tingling burning numbness in any region in the body in head or in hand legs arms ,must take us to think about a nerve injury and guide us to figure the cause that lie behind certain nerve injury like the trigeminal nerve impairment or injury ,trigeminal neuralgia or pinched nerve due to inflammation beside .
Symptoms might be in this case numbness and weakness of the affected side of the face as a consequence of the facial nerve impairment. Pain may result due to holding the head in an abnormal position for an extended period of time while reading or working on a computer. Sleeping in an awkward position can also produce the same symptoms.
Do you have a chronic ear pain and was draining in any time and stopped or you have an inflammation in the bone behind the ear ?Have you done a surgery for your ear ?have you had a trauma or injury ?does this occur continuously or sometimes especially after certain food or drinks ? many questions may be related and many symptoms associated will guide to the diagnose .
Some causes are :
-Allergy to Foods
Tingling in the face has been known to be caused by food allergies. For example, several recent cases include this and other symptoms as an allergy to barley after consuming only a small amount of beer.
-vitamin deficiencies can result in numbness and B12 deficiency is the most common. This can result form stomach surgery, improper diet and is common in alcoholics.
-Trauma or injury to the head can produce nerve damage leading to head numbness and other acute neurological disorders, also surgery in the ear or face or bones in head may cause nerve irritation and injury
-Irritation and pressure on the cervical nerves as well as traumatic injury to the head causing blood loss, contributes to the loss of sensation in the scalp ,face and head
-The trigeminal nerve can also be injured as a complication of DENTAL treatment or affected by a disease condition such as DIABETES.
-Cervical nerves, specifically identified as C1-C4 in the spinal cord if irritated ,injured or if there is a disc are responsible for transmitting sensation to the head or face.some diorders causing this are :
meningitis / multiple sclerosis/ tumor/ herniated and degenerative disk disease/impact the spinal cord.
- herpes zoster virus affects groups of facial nerve clusters and cervical nerves, producing a host of symptoms including itching, intense pain, tingling and head numbness. Numbness may occur only on one side of the head.
-stroke, and seizure disorder
-Anxiety conditions can cause adrenaline surges which result in tingling of the face, as well as other parts of the body
-A tingling, stinging or pricking sensation of the face or other areas of the body is considered one of the symptoms of electrical sensitivity.there will be other signes of fatigue and headaches and low concentration,..
-Positional numbness of the head can be caused by exerting pressure on blood vessels. This can contribute to a decrease in circulation and subsequent numbness. The result can be numbness of the face, head, and neck. In addition, headache, pain in the shoulder, and neck pain can also occur from circulation impingement. Although these symptoms can be alarming, they are generally mild and temporary.
Typically, numbness in the head is not serious, but it can sometimes indicate a serious condition. With the help of diagnostic tests and a physical examination the doctor diagnose and put a treatment plan
other symptoms beside this head numbness you feel may indicate what is the cause
Diagnose first is to eliminate serious causes like MRI and CT scan you have done other tools consider neurologic full exam including the test for trigeminal nerve .
Treatment usually starts with medication is usually the first course of treatment. Surgical procedures such as microvascular decompression generally are not successful with patients.some medications may include neurontin ,triptyl,..hot and cold compresses,..
So as you see different causes switch to your doctor diagnostic plan to know the diagnose and get proper treatment .

it is not mentionned that this burning is uni or bilateral it could be an irritation of cervical nerves or lack of vitamin b12
