If your sexual partner has a sexually transmitted infection (STI), whether active or latent (no apparent symptoms), what you can do is do tests for hepatitis B and C and HIV, which are the most dangerous viral STIs, around 3 weeks after the initial exposure. You need not take any antibiotics unless you develop signs and symptoms of a bacterial STI, such as abnormal penile secretions - the implicated bacteria are mainly chlamydia abd/or neisseria and these can be detected on culture of the secretions or urine. These infections are curable.Treatment is with antibiotics for both individuals who were involved in the sexual activity.
Meanwhile it would be a good idea to abstain from any sexual activity until you are sure you have not caught any infection.
