Dear Drs. I'v been having a sever cough,fever,headache,body pain,runny nose and insomnia for 3days. its stronger than usual cold/flu. any suggestions?

There is a circulating powerful influenza virus that is causing severe flu in a good number of people, and the symptoms it is producing are not resolving quickly. Then again, since your symptoms have been there for a few days, it is recommended that you be examined by a physician to make sure you have not developed more serious complications, mainly a sinusitis or a pneumonia, and examing the sinuses (palpating the face for tenderness, checking for post nasal drip of sputum), and listening carefully to the lungs +/- an X-ray of the sinuses (to look for thickening of the sinuses, a sign of inflammation) and a chest X-ray are necessary to rule in/out such possible complications. The management will be determined according to the findings on the physical exam and imaging (if deemed necessary).
