luteal phase defect is diagnosed by a low progesterone level, when the corpus luteum fails to adequately secrete progesterone...
the luteal phase is constant in the majority of females, the variation will be in the follicular phase, so when you have a 20d cycle, so the ovulation will be on d7, as compared to 28d, where it will be on d14.
